MAKAWAO — A year after Amanda Eller was found, the search for answers continues. The Maui physical therapist went missing in the Makawao Forest Reserve May 8, 2019. About 17 days later, she was found alive — injured but relatively healthy — by veteran helicopter pilot Pete Vorhes, who had aboard three ground crew volunteer searchers: Chris Berquist, Javier Cantellops and Troy Helmer. Vorhes is an employee of Windward Aviation. Its Air One helicopter is contracted by the county to assist police and fire crews during search and rescue, body retrieval and firefighting events.
